When to book your Kansas City maternity session
Kansas City, we're coming home!
I’m here to take the stress out of photos and turn your fleeting moments into forever memories.
From styling to artwork, I take care of every detail—so you can focus on what matters most: loving on your babies while I preserve your family’s legacy with timeless, heartfelt imagery.
One of the questions I hear most often is: When should I schedule my newborn photos in Kansas City?
And I completely get it. Those early weeks can feel like a blur— full of wonder, exhaustion, and tender new beginnings. You want to remember it all. The timing of your session plays a big role in capturing the kind of moments your heart never wants to forget.
If you’re still in the early planning stages, you can start with my complete guide to Kansas City newborn photography, which walks through what to expect, how sessions work, and how I prepare families for this season.

If you’re drawn to soft, swaddled, dreamy images, the first two weeks after birth are ideal.
During this stage, babies:
Tiny features— wrinkled toes, flaky shoulders, delicate lashes— are still brand new.
For many Kansas City families, this session feels like pressing pause. A quiet moment to soak in just how small they still are.
To secure this window, I recommend booking your newborn session during your second trimester so space is reserved around your due date.
Because I photograph a limited number of newborn sessions each month, booking early ensures I can leave flexibility around your due date without overbooking my calendar.
It allows me to care for each family well — especially when babies arrive early, late, or need extra time.

If the early newborn stage feels overwhelming, or you’d prefer a little more time to settle in, 4–6 weeks is a beautiful option.
At this age, babies are:
While ultra-curled poses are less common, what you gain instead is connection. Wide eyes. First smiles. The beginnings of interaction.
This option has become increasingly popular with experienced mothers who want recovery time and a slower transition– especially if there are siblings in the mix.

There isn’t a single perfect day to schedule your session, there’s only what feels right for your family.
Whether you’re hoping for sleepy newborn images or want to document your baby’s emerging personality, both stages are worth remembering.
The most important thing is that you don’t let the season pass without preserving it.
Most families reserve their newborn session during pregnancy — typically between 20–30 weeks — to ensure space around their due date.
But I know what you’re really wondering:
What if baby comes early?
What if my delivery doesn’t go as planned?
What if there’s a NICU stay?
Newborns do not follow calendars.
That’s exactly why I don’t schedule sessions by exact dates. When you book, I reserve space around your due date — not a fixed appointment. Once your baby arrives, you simply reach out, and we choose the best day based on how you’re feeling and how your baby is doing.
If your baby arrives early, we adjust.
If you need more recovery time, we adjust.
If there’s a NICU stay, we wait.
I intentionally leave flexibility in my calendar because these first weeks should never feel rushed or pressured.
Your baby’s health. Your recovery. Your peace of mind— those always come first.
If you’re reading this after your baby has already arrived and wondering if it’s too late— please don’t hesitate to reach out. I always do my best to accommodate newborn sessions when space allows.
